Claxton - Honorable Mayor Perry Lee DeLoach, 80, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Evans Memorial Hospital. He has been the Mayor of Claxton for the past 34 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Claxton. A member and past President of The Rotary Club, past President of the Jaycee's, member of the VFW and American Legion. He was past President of the Local Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was past President of the GMA in the first District. He was a Salesman and a Dealership Owner for Ford Motor Co. for 35 years. He served two tours in the Marines during WWII and Korean War.
Survivors: wife, Jean Holloway DeLoach of Claxton; one daughter, Catherine Powell of Claxton; two brothers, W.R. "Boss" DeLoach and Elton DeLoach both of Claxton; two sisters, Jane Hammock of Claxton, and Nannie Kate Denton of Hagan; one grandson and wife, Corey and Shelly Powell of Claxton; two great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Andrew Powell both of Claxton and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 8, 2004, 6:00 p.m. until at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home in Claxton.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, May 9, 2004, 3:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Claxton with Rev. Craig Hutto and Rev. John Carroll officiating.
Burial: Canoochee Church Cemetery
