Dr. Lionel R. DeLoach, 13 April 2005

Dr. Lionel R. DeLoach, 81, died Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in Guadalajara, Mexico. He was born Mary 15, 1923, in Hinesville, GA to the Rev. Wesley C. and Cora Bacon DeLoach. He was a World War II veteran with the Army Corps of Engineers, honorably discharged in 1944. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1956 with a Doctorate of Agronomy degree. After graduation, he went to work in 1957 with British American Tobacco Company in Mexico where he lived and worked until 1984, retiring as Managing Director of British American Tobacco Mexico Leaf Operations. He was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Glennville.

He is survived by his wife, Socorro C. DeLoach of Glennville; daughters and sons-in-law, Debroah D. and Richard Zuniga of Artesia, NM, and Cyndi D. and James Rogers of Eastman; sons and daughters-in-law: Lionel R., Jr., and Claudia Deloach of Richmond, VA; Rodney and Lil Deloach of Glennville; and Kenny and Toni Deloach of Pfafftown, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Edward Collins of Belvedere, SC; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with Father Brian LaBurt and the Rev. Travis Cowart officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Wayne Easterling, Jonathan Collins, Pat Easterling, Bob Collins, David Easterling, and Gerald DeLoach.

Honorary pallbearers were Jackie Dasher, Dwight Cason, and Tony Barbour.

Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
