The western part of Georgia was considered Indian Territory for many years, and settlement by Europeans wasn't sanctioned until the 1820s. Harris County was formed in 1827, and many people headed to this Alabama border county looking for cheap land. Among them were several DeLoach families. The 1830 Harris County census did not have any DeLoaches listed, but the 1840 census containes the following:
