Floyd J. Bowers, 76, 1436 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Bowers was a Carter County native and a son of the late William and Lola Carriger Bowers.
He was retired from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Mr. Bowers was a previous Sunday school director and member of Siam Baptist Church, Elizabethton.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 49.
Mr. Bowers was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mildred Jenkins Bowers; one son, Larry Dean Bowers; and one brother, Ray Bowers.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maxie Bowers; one stepson, Daniel Andrew Johnson, Hampton; two sisters, Pearl Ayers, Elizabethton, and Ina Mae Soto, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Floyd J. Bowers, age 76, 1436 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, June 21, 2001 will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with Revs. Jack Roddy, Ray Stockton, and Billy Stockton officiating. Graveside services and entombment will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors to be accorded by Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Chris Jenkins, Gerald Jenkins, Fred Jenkins, Bill Anderson, Dan Crowe, Charles Lipford, and Lawrence Dial. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Siam Baptist Church and Staff of VA Nursing Home Unit, 2nd floor. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2001 for the graveside services. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace.
