- LENOIR, N.C. – Ruth Leona Arnold, age 96, of 1232-A Norwood St., Lenoir, N.C., and formerly of the Neva Community, Mountain City, Tenn., passed away Saturday, July 26, 2003, at her residence. She was a native of Johnson County and was born April 24, 1907, to the late John and Ollie Michaels Arnold. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Daniel Arnold; one son, Worley Sexton; one grandson, Mike Sexton; one granddaughter, Nancy Lee Morefield; three sisters, Maude Slemp, Susie Winters and Annie Greer; and two brothers, Clinton Arnold and Baxter Arnold. Ruth was a homemaker, enjoyed quilting and working puzzle books, and attended Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Reece, Laurel Bloomery, Tenn., Ollie Presnell, Zionville, N.C., and Ruby Earp and husband Johnny, Lenoir, N.C.; two sons, Lonnie Arnold, Lenoir, N.C., and Connie Arnold, Wortburg, Tenn.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; special friends Rev. Jack Moses and wife Gladys of First Freewill Baptist Church of Lenoir, the late Charlie Hux and Joe Hux. Funeral services for Ruth Leona Arnold will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2003, from the chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Moses and Rev. Billy Stiles to officiate. Active pallbearers will be Tim Leonard, Sam Reid, Rick Townsend, David Mains, Garner Icenhour, David Sexton and Johnny Cress. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Floyd Barker, Dr. John Bowen, Dr. Darsia, Dr. John Tye and Dr. Don Tarr. Music will be under the direction of Lisa Hackney, Alice Robinson and The Fletcher Family. The family will receive friends from 12-12:30 p.m. prior to services at the chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.
