- MEADOWVIEW, Va. James David Vanover, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Valley Health Care Center. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was born to the late Winston Ferry Vanover and Della Payne Vanover in Mountain City, Tenn. He is also preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Lewis and Elizabeth Vanover. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Grace Humphrey Vanover; two sons, James R. Vanover of the home and David Joe Glen Vanover and wife, Sharon, of Atkins, Va.; two daughters, Patricia Diane Goad and husband, Edward, of Bristol, Va., and Sherrie Vanover of the home; three brothers, Ralph Vanover and wife, Brenda, of Shady Valley, Tenn., R.B. Vanover and wife, Joan, of Mountain City, and Robert Vanover of Lenoir, N.C.; six sisters, Vedie Pope of North Carolina, Lois Cox and husband, Lloyd, of North Carolina, Ruth Borror of Mountain City, Lorene Embert of Delaware, Ferry Roark and husband, Spencer, of Mountain City, and Ruby Oliver of Mountain City; brother-in-law, J.T. Lewis of Delaware; four grandchildren, Robin Smith and husband, Billy, of Abingdon, Va., Makayla Vanover, Isaiah Vanover, and Elijah Vanover all of Atkins; three great grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Cody Smith, and Shawn Smith, all of Abingdon; several nieces and nephews; and friend, Steve Smith of Bristol, Tenn. Visitation with the family will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec 21, 2012 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Harry Booher officiating.
