- Audrey Jane Blackburn Grindstaff, 76, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, March 26, 2022, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born June 27, 1945 in Carter County to the late Silas Clifton and Ada Zella Scalf Blackburn.
Jane loved being around her grandkids, cooking and needlepoint. She was a member of Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. She pursued her savior and family with love. She finished well, what a beautiful testimony she left behind.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jane. She loved a quiet evening with friends and family. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family, and neighborhood children who would gather around the kitchen table for meals and encouragement. Everyone loved listening to Jane’s stories of her beloved years and encouraging words of wisdom that she led by example and her love for Christ. She was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church and community.
Jane was preceded in death by a son, Carl Eugene Grindstaff, and a great-granddaughter, Maleigha Audrey Blackwell.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Pastor Carl Grindstaff; four children, Angela Stonecipher and husband Johnny, Sheila McKinney and friend Doug Duncan and Jonathan Grindstaff and wife Sharay, all of Elizabethton, and Jenny Townsend and husband Bob, Johnson City; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Darrell Blackburn.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Jane Grindstaff will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paul Grindstaff, Pastor Ed Moser and Pastor Caleb Grindstaff officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, in the Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Hampton. Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Grindstaff, John T. Grindstaff, Logan Grindstaff, Tommy Oliver, Ethan Townsend, D.J. Harris, Robbie Solomin, Nathanael Stonecipher, Andrew Stonecipher, Landon Duncan and Keydon Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be ministers of the Toe River Free Will Baptist Association, her church families at Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church, East Fairview Free Will Baptist Church, St. John Free Will Baptist Church and other churches she had been associated with during her husband’s ministry.
