- Charles Franklin Goodman, Jr, of Kingsport, TN, passed away Sunday, June 29th, 2014 at Holston Valley Hospital.
He was born on November 17, 1932 in Johnson City, TN, the son of the late Charles Goodman, Sr. and Alberta Wilson Goodman. He was a graduate of Science Hill High School and attended East Tennessee State College. He married Jean Elizabeth Nickels on July 17, 1953. The couple moved to Newport News, VA, then to Atlanta, GA, and returned to Kingsport in 1960.
He was a member of the Colonial Heights Christian Church. He truly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and competitive shooting around the entire Southeast. He took every opportunity he was given to pass his outdoor skills on to everyone he met, not just his family, but also former Tennessee Governor Lamar Alexander. He served the Colonial Heights Optimist Club as President and secretary/treasurer for Optimist International. He was a longtime electrical salesman in the Tri-City area and retired from Wholesale Electric in 1990. After retirement, he sold real estate in the area for Century 21 Realtors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert (Bobby) Guy Goodman, of Asheville, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Elizabeth (Nickels) Goodman; son, Dale E. Goodman and daughter-in-law, Kathy of Gainesville, GA; sister, Nancy Ann Crigler of Killeen, TX; sister in-laws Carolyn Goodman Horrell of Asheville, NC, and Sylvia Nickels, of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Jeremy Goodman and his wife, Nhi, of Phoenix, AZ; Ellen Goodman of Gainesville, GA, and Abbey Goodman of Gainesville, GA; two nieces, Brenda Goodman and Elizabeth (Nickels) Fox, and nephew, James (Jimmy) Peregoy; several great nieces and great nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in Colonial Heights Christian Church, with Bruce Montgomery, Ph.D., officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
