- Nancy Belle Dowell, age 87, of 504 S. Church Street, Mountain City, passed away Saturday morning in the Johnson County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Dowell was a native of Johnson County, a daughter of the late Charlie R. and Lydia Greer Potter. Mrs. Dowell was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie O. Dowell in 1963, and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include five daughters, Hazel Dowell and Verta Greer, both of Mountain City; Opal Wood, Wilmington, Delaware; Virginia Ailes, Oxford, Pennsylvania; Eula Dowell, Avondale, Pennsylvania; three sons, Ralph Dowell, New Castle, Delaware; John Dowell, Mountain City; Harold Dowell, West Grove, Pennsylvania; one brother, Charlie Potter, Mountain City; two sisters, Mae Howard, Mountain City; Mrs. Danford Stout, Elizabethton; 31 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday from the Gentry-Percy-Hux Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwight Adams officiating. Interment followed in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were friends and neighbors.
