- MOUNTAIN CITY — Opal I. Gambill, age 83, of 204 Church Lane, Mountain City, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, August 2, 2006, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton, TN.
She was a native of Johnson County and was born May 5, 1923, to the late Jess and Emma Payne Arnold. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Gambill, who were married for 63 years; also by Five sisters: Pearl Shelly, Lela Hammons, Vica Lewis, Lucille Walsh and Lorean Farmer; Four brothers: Denvil Arnold, Herman Arnold, Marvin Arnold and Ray Arnold.
She was an active member of the Ackerson Creek Church of Christ, a life time member of the American Legion Post #6908 and the VFW and was retired from Melville Shoe Company. She loved cooking and caring for her family.
Survivors include four sons: Bill and wife, Brenda Gambill, of Mountain City, Earl and wife, Mary Ann Gambill, of Mountain City, Sonny and Wife, Gail Gambill, of Mountain City, Adopted Son: Bob and wife Melinda Heck, of Mountain City; Two sisters: Nina Tedder, of Mountain City, Oshea Kirby, Newark, Delaware; Six Grandchildren: Joyce Travis, Lisa Fields, Billy Gambill, Bev Fletcher, Wayne Gambill and Mischelle Simcox; Special Friends: Mrs. Ellen Roark. Twelve Great Grandchildren, Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Opal I. Gambill will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2006, from the Chapel of the Henson Funeral Home with Mr. Gary Gambill, Kenneth Caswell and Wayne Gambill to Officiate. Music will be under the Direction of Walter and Pam Johnson. Graveside services and Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2006, from the Dunn Memorial Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be: Wayne Gambill, Billy Gambill, Eugene Arnold, Glen Gambill, Terry Gambill, Russell Lewis, Bobby Ray Arnold and Willie Arnold. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home Chapel prior the services and other times friends may call at residence, 204 Church Lane, Mountain City, at anytime.
