- James Douglas Ellis, 69, of US Highway 19-E, Minneapolis, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 at his residence.
A native of Avery County he was a son of the late Clark R. and Maxine Eller Ellis. Mr. Ellis was retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class after 22 years of service to his country.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed the holidays and spending time with his family. Jim liked to fish and collecting eagles. He was known for his warm and welcoming demeanor, and was a man who never met a stranger.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Ellis of the home; daughter, Leisa Ellis, of Elk Park and her fiancé John Kiser; son, Doug Ellis, and his wife, Kelly, of Morganton; granddaughter, Chealssea Morris of Elk Park; sisters, Frances Potter of Maryland, Jan Lewis of Elk Park; brother, John Ellis of Elk Park; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for James Douglas Ellis will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, from the Heaton Christian Church, of which he was a member, with Gary Edwards, David Ellis, and Jason Simpkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the church.
Family, friends, and pallbearers will gather at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Elk Park Cemetery for graveside services. Serving as pallbearers will be: Doug Ellis, John Ellis, David Ellis, Sam Eller, J.B. Potter, John Kiser, Gary Edwards, and Johnny Wayne Hughes.
