- Sylvia Mae Buck Story, 86, formerly of Lakewood Village Apartments, Johnson City, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Roxie Buck and was born in Caretta, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Story; and a brother, Harlan Buck.
Mrs. Story was a member of Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church in Erwin. She was the school secretary at Holston Heights Elementary School for twelve years and was also a homemaker.
She is survived by four children, Sharon Marston, Ashland, VA; Rev. Joel Story and his wife, Teresa, Louisburg, NC; Pat Sparkman, Holly Springs, NC; Darlene Mumpower, Bristol, TN; seven grandchildren, Timothy Marston and his wife, Virginia, New Market, VA; Christopher Marston and his wife, Susan, Aylett, VA; Michael Story and his wife, Karen, Clayton, NC; Michelle Story, Louisburg, NC; Christy Mumpower, Bristol, TN; Melinda Diehl and her husband, Scott, Mount Juliet, TN; Kelly Spencer and her husband Ken, Holly Springs, NC; ten great-grandchildren, Travis, Victoria, and Ethan Marston, Mercedes Marrero, Ethan Patterson, Daniel Spencer, Megan and Samantha Marston, Kitt Story and Landon Story; and a sister, Florine Lick, Johnson City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service for Mrs. Story will be conducted on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Derek Cornett, minister, officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Carlos Carver, Larry Carver, Timothy Marston, Christopher Marston and Michael Story.
