- Janice Delores Pierce Gentry, 82, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Raymond E. and Edell Minton Pierce.
Janice was a graduate of Unaka High School. Prior to her retirement she was employed at Valley Forge Elementary School and Big K. She was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church but attended Horseshoe Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Williams, and a brother, Donald Pierce.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Cameron “Buck” Gentry; her children, Vickie Diane Bennett, Randal Lewis and wife Kimberly, David Gentry and Curtis Gentry and wife Desie, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Robbie Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Chad Lewis, Andrea Lewis, Brook Thompson and Blake Gentry; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Elaine Jenkins and Sandra Kay Richardson, both of Elizabethton, and Debra Ann Blevins, Johnson City; two brothers, Raymond Lowell Pierce, Elizabethton, and Gary Pierce, Bristol, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 19, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Robbie Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Chad Lewis, Andrea Lewis, Brook Thompson, Blake Gentry, Chris Russell, Justin Thompson and Shane Hill. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Johnson City Medical Center for the excellent care she received during her stay there. The family would also like to thank our sister, Vickie Bennett, for the love and excellent care she gave to our mother.
