- Ruby Mae Long, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at her home. She was born to the late Richard and Glady Fletcher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William James Long; brother, R.E. Fletcher; and sisters, Rita White and Irene Collazo.
Ruby was a member of Southern Baptist Church, Hammond, Ind., and attended Eastside FWB Church in Elizabethton. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. She had a passion for reading her Bible and attending Bible classes. She loved spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Teresa Heaton (Louie) of Elizabethton and Angie Winters of Asheville; son, Dr. Billy Joe Long (Lisa) of Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, Aaron Winters, Tony Heaton, Christopher Heaton, Sabrina Heaton, Conner Long, Logan Mackley and Zachary Mackley; several great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Fletcher of Elizabethton; and two sisters, Pearl Trivette and Dora Long, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service for friends and family to celebrate the life of Ruby Mae Long will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 19, at Fletcher Cemetery in Butler, Tenn., with Rev. Harvey White officiating.
