- Julius Charles "J.C." Puckett Sr., 88, of Newland, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
A native of Avery County, he was born April 2, 1923, a son of the late Grover and Maggie Gwyn Puckett. He enjoyed turkey shoots, taking care of his garden and collecting guns. Along with his parents, Puckett was preceded in death by his: Sons, Jay C.Puckett and David Puckett; daughter, Ruby Louise Puckett; grandson, Morris Puckett. Puckett has left to cherish his memory his: Daughter, Edna Puckett Campbell and husband David of Erwin, Tenn.; sons, Charles J. Puckett Jr. and wife Sandra of Newland, Larry Puckett and wife Glenna also of Newland; brother, Grover Puckett Jr. of San Francisco, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
