- Stuart L. “Haney” Blackburn, age 92, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, June 11, 2021, at Hillview Health Center. A native of Johnson County, TN, He is the son of the late Orin Hill Blackburn and Pearl Wagner Blackburn. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church and the choir director for many years. He served in the Korean War for the U.S. Army and worked for Magnavox, NARC and later retired from a lawnmower business. “Haney” enjoyed working on lawnmowers, attending church and leading the choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Chloe (Frank) Jewett, Marie (Sam) Dugger and Mary Odell (Jay) Depew; three brothers, Paul Blackburn, Fred (Dora) Blackburn and Elmer (Virginia) Blackburn and daughter, Lori Tester. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Agnes M. Blackburn; two sons, Carroll (Janet) Glover and Orin (Carol) Blackburn; four daughters, Janette (Tony) West, Anna M. Hodge, Sandra Norris and Marcia Baxley; seven grandchildren, Tim (Sheila) Barnett, Travis Glover, Dustin Glover, Chris West, Samantha Martinez, Grace Blackburn and Mallory Blackburn; great-grandchildren, Riley Barnett, Kaden Roberts, Sophie Martinez; a sister, Anna Ruth ( Earl) Morefield; a special friend, Leonard Cross and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service to honor the life of Stuart “Haney” Blackburn will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Alan King and Mr. Caleb King officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church choir. The family will receive friends between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday.
The graveside service and committal will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Mountain Home National Cemetery (New Annex) 215 Heroes Drive, Mountain Home, TN 37684. Military Honors will be accorded by the VFW Post 2108 Honor Guard. Active pallbearers are John Whitson, Leonard Cross, Tim Barnett, Chris West, Steve Hatley and Terry Penix. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family.
