- OHNSON CITY -- Cline H. Holtzsclaw, 88, 1105 Sevier St., died Monday,
Jan. 6, 2003, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Holtzsclaw was a native of Carter County and had been a resident of
Johnson City most of his life.
He was a son of the late John C. and Celia Whitehead Holtzsclaw.
Mr. Holtzsclaw retired from General Mills in 1979.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Brotherhood Bible
Class.
Mr. Hotlzsclaw was an avid gardener, woodworker, beekeeper, orchid grower
and wine maker.
He had been active with the Orchid Society of East Tennessee, Washington
County Beekeepers Association and was instrumental in the development of the
Friendship Gardens.
Mr. Holtzsclaw was a graduate of Science Hill High School and attended
Milligan College.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Reece Holtzsclaw and Will
Holtzsclaw; and one sister, Effie Whitehead.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Holtzsclaw of the home; one son, Bill
Holtzsclaw, Gray, Tenn.; one daughter, Cheryl Holtzsclaw Buck, Bristol; one
sister, Bernice Cable, Marion, N.C.; one grandson, David Holtzsclaw, Johnson
City; two granddaughters, Susan Holtzsclaw, Gray and Amber Wood, Pacifica,
Calif.; one great-granddaughter, Chelsea Holtzsclaw, Johnson City.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Jan., 8, 2003, at 7 p.m.
in the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home with Baron Eliason
officiating. Graveside committal services will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003,
at 11 a.m. in Monte Vista Burial Park.
