- Mr. Dewey Lee “Gomer” Hartley, age 69, of Elizabethton “walked” home to be with his Lord Saturday, October 24, 2015 from Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Carlee William and Rosalee Vines Hartley. He was a retired employee of Snap-On-Tools and he was of the Baptist faith. “Gomer” loved playing music with his friends and enjoyed listening to blue grass music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, L. D. Hartley and Jessie Hartley and a sister, Maxine Whaley. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Hartley, of the home; three daughters, Norma Garrison and husband Mark, Elizabethton; Lorie Canter and husband David, Johnson City and Glinia Creasey and husband Doug, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Matthew Canter, Jacob Garrison, Kaylee Garrison, Kristen Creasey and Joshua Creasey; brothers, R. L. Hartley, Dennis Hartley, Gene Hartley and Carroll Hartley; sisters, Cindy Phillips, Hazel Clawson and Lucille Gardner and a special sister-in-law, Wanda Buckles. Several nieces and nephews and his loyal companion “Molly” also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service to honor the life of Mr. Dewey Lee “Gomer” Hartley will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Howard Estep, Rev. Ronnie Campbell and Rev. Buddy Street officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday prior to the service or at the residence at other times.
Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 29, 2015 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be June Andrews, Gary Cable, Dale Guinn, Bobby Guinn, Shane Guinn and Ken Carter.
