U.S. Veteran, Sam Whitehead, 80, Roan Mountain, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Hensley and Mary Ann Ingram Whitehead.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a retired Truck Driver.
Mr. Whitehead was a member of the Roan Park Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Buster, Bob & George Whitehead and a son-in-law: William Bill Tolley.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Ruby Johnson Whitehead. One Daughter: Rita Tolley and her late husband WilliamTolley, Roan Mountain. Three Sons: Kevin Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Clifford Whitehead and fiancé Judy King, Hampton and Roger Whitehe3ad and wife Margaret, Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Ray Whitehead, Elizabethton and Arnold Whitehead and wife Margaret, Roan Mountain. 5 Granddaughters, One Grandson and 12 Great Grandchildren. Several nieces & nephews including a special niece Robin Whitehead.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne Scbish officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be: Adam Johnson, Darren Lacy, Andy Stout, Rusty Estep, Jimmy Hill, Brandon Arrowood and Allen Lyons. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to his daughter-in-law, Margaret Whitehead and grandson, Travis Whitehead and Ivy Tester at Mtn. States Hospice. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.
