- Mary Lillie Lyons Baker, 78, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Home. Mary was born in Carter County to the late Thomas Dewey Lyons Sr. and Gertrude Arnett Lyons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Baker; her daughter, Lillie Stout; and a son-in-law, Richard Lindecamp.
Mary was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed coloring, playing cards, sewing, going to yard sales and collecting antiques. Mary loved to spend time with her family — especially her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Mary’s many wonderful memories include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Freddy Baker and partner Cynthia of Hampton and George Wayne Baker and wife Karen of Hudson, Fla.; seven daughters and four sons-in-law, Star Baker Lopez and husband Joshua of Marion, N.C., Rosie Lindecamp Hargreaves and husband Jay of Hudson, Fla., Barbara Baker of Cranberry, N.C., Diana Buckles and husband Allen of Elizabethton, Patricia Bennett and husband Troy of Elizabethton, Linda Cole of Roan Mountain and Donna Chambers and husband Jr. of Roan Mountain; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Lyons of Hampton and Thomas Dewey Lyons Jr. of Roan Mountain; and three sisters, Patsy Markland of Roan Mountain, Mae Bowers of Roan Mountain and Elsie Lyons of Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mary Lillie Lyons Baker will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Gary Whitehead and son-in-law, Mr. Robert Stout, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 6 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Aaron Townsend, Christian Chambers, Troy Bennett, Joshua Lopez, June Chambers Jr., Adam Cole, Matt Cole and Doug Markland. Honorary pallbearer will be Brandon Gobble.
