- KINGSPORT - Ruby Moody Davenport, 86, died Tuesday at Church Hill Healthcare and Rehab Center in Church Hill. Mrs. Davenport is survived locally by a daughter, Jackie Brandon Fritts of Bulls Gap. She was born in the Indian Springs community of Kingsport, where she had lived most of her life. Mrs. Davenport was a member of First Christian Church, the Loyal Matrons Sunday School Class, and also attended Kingsley United Methodist Church. She retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Environmental Services. She was the widow of R. B. Brandon, who died in 1967, and O.D. Davenport, who died in 1992. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by three stepdaughters: Betty Kelly of Knoxville, Linda Davis of Kingsport, and Phyllis Simmons of Matthews, N.C.; three stepsons: Leonard Davenport of Kingsport, Don Davenport of Mount Carmel, and Billy Davenport of Kingsport; four grandchildren: Tony Christian, Carla Dalton, Nicki Christian, and Thelma Fann; eight great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law: Lochiel and Haskell Harr of Kingsport; and two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Campbell and Iris Grimes, both of Kingsport. She was a daughter of the late G.N. and Annie Moody and was preceded in death by a stepson: Willard Davenport; two sisters: Orpha Phillips, Vona Browder, and Leona Pierson; and seven brothers: Leonard Moody, Howard Moody, John Moody, Robert Moody, Thurman Moody, Brady Moody, and Mason Moody. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Emory UM Church. The Rev. Raymond Amos will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
