- John “Papaw John” Wesley Richardson, age 80, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Hermitage Healthcare and is finally free of this world’s pain.
He was born at home in the Stoney Creek Community, the son of the late Walter Brownlow Richardson and Daisy Lula Peters Richardson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Pat Stout Richardson in 2018; and an infant sister, Etta Mae.
John attended Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a sheet metal worker by trade and loved woodworking and painting cars. Papaw John was an American Picker long before Mike and Frank.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Randy Richardson and wife Nicole, Tammy Troutman and husband Tim and Danny Richardson and wife Lisa; six grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Miranda Richardson, Zachary and Rachel Peters, Hunter, Abigail and Emily Richardson; a brother, Eddie Richardson; and an extended family, Gary, Maria, Garrett and Alyson Deloach, and James, Renita, Amara, Aundria and Alena Bunten.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of John “Papaw John” Wesley Richardson will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Reverend Doug Hinshaw, Joey Burker and Reverend Kenny Lethcoe, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday or at the residence at any time.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Tim Troutman, Gary Deloach, James Bunten, David Roark, Brad Grindstaff, John Pierce, Zachary Peters, Hunter Richardson and Garrett Deloach. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Troutman and his former co-workers.
