- Carl “Joe” Hatley, age 93, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Joe was born in Butler, Tennessee, to the late Alvin and Minnie Arnold Hatley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Virginia Lunceford Hatley; one son, Kenneth Hatley; two daughters, Sheila Stout and Patricia Stout; and six brothers, Wayne Hatley, Clifford Hatley, Brown Hatley, Burl Hatley, Lawrence Hatley and Hubert Hatley.
Joe retired from North American Rayon Corporation and was a United States Army Veteran, having served in World War II. He was of the Baptist faith and loved trading cars and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include one son, Rick Hatley, of Elizabethon; four grandchildren, Doug Stout, Amy Montgomery, Rickey Lee Hatley and Amber Nicole Ward; three great-grandchildren, Mason Montgomery, Samuel Montgomery and Connor Montgomery; and two sisters, Dorothy Pearson and Christine Payne, both of Butler, TN.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Carl “Joe” Hatley will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2020, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Reverend Brian Cable and Reverend Charles Cable, officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday or at the residence from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Saturday.
The graveside service will follow in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard Post #6975. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
