- Vivian Potter Griner, 76, passed away on February 14, 2020, in Valdosta, Ga.
Vivian wanted ya’ll to know her work here is done. She received a call with an offer one could not refuse. She will not be returning, but the sign on bonus was too good to pass up, as she will be seeing folks she has not seen in a long time. First in line will be the love of her life and husband of 23 years, James Griner. Not far behind will be her parents, the late Ezekiel and Hassie (nee: Winters) Potter, and beloved siblings, Ray, Jean, Lois and Joyce.
Vivian is survived by her children, Mike Griner, Nolan, and Cara Tomlinson, Valdosta, Ga.; grandchildren, Drew Jenkins (Hannah), Macy Jenkins, and Kelly Martin (David); brothers, Pete (Joyce) (Oregon) and Ralph (Helen) Potter (Roan Mountain); sisters, Marbeth Michael (Elberta, Ala.) and Faye Woodard (Mountain City, Tenn.); as well as a large extended family. She was also grateful for special friend, Bill Bunton, Elizabethton, Tenn.
Although born in North Carolina, Vivian was proud of having grown up in the close-knit Buck Mountain Community, Roan Mountain, Tenn. Family, friends, and babies were Vivian’s love and joy. As a young woman she married the late Byrd Tomlinson and moved to Valdosta, Ga., where she threw her spunk and friendly nature into raising her children. Vivian felt the greatest calling on earth was that of a mother. During this time, she became a second mother to countless young people who love her to this day. After her children were grown she returned to Elizabethton, Tenn. Vivian desired no services, as pomp and circumstances were not her style.
