- Farrell D. Swanner, 63 years of age, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side following a courageous battle with cancer. He loved spending time with his family and friends, loved the outdoors, spending time on his pontoon boat and loved the beach.
He was born in Washington County, TN and lived in Kingsport for the past 11 years. Farrell graduated from Washington College Academy in 1968 and attended ETSU in the early 70's. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1968 to 1970. Farrell served in the Vietnam War and was a member of the National Guard in Gate City, VA. He was a member of Fair View Baptist Church in Kingsport and loved studying the Bible.
Farrell was preceded in death by his father, Cad Swanner and nephews, Jamie Swanner and Ricky Cable.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Brenda Babb Swanner and son, Cody Swanner of the home; step-daughter, Dawn Carter of Gate City, VA; step-son, Jason Egan and wife, Ashley of Clinchport, VA; four step-grandchildren; loving mother, Maxine Swanner of Telford, TN; twin brother, Darrell Swanner and wife, Shelby of Church Hill, TN, and brother, Jim Swanner and wife, Cindy of Jonesborough, TN and brother, Glen Swanner and wife, Janis of Jonesborough, TN; two nephews, Jacob and David Swanner; and step-sister, Elnora Cable of Elizabethton, TN.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 16th from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, and at anytime at 1325 Tranbarger Drive off of Lynn Avenue. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm with Pastor Travis Pierson and Pastor Jamie Reynold officiating. Singers will be Lee Smith and family.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, January 17th at 11:00 am at Washington County Memorial Gardens. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265 and theTennessee Army National Guard.
Pallbearers will be Harold Jones, Jim Benton, Ivan Cannon, Jimmy Babb, David and Jacob Swanner and Garnie Snavely. Honorary pallbearer will be Ray McDavid.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful doctors and nurses at the VA in Johnson City and a special thank you to his angels in the oncology department. They would also like to thank all of the Hospice Caregivers that spent time with him.
