- Jake Hughes, 82, 427 Cove Creek Rd., Roan Mountain, Tenn., died Saturday, May 11, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
A Roan Mountain, Tenn., native, he was the son of the late Manuel and Fairy Bell Hughes.
He was preceded in death in death by four brothers, Isaac Hughes, Jeter Hughes, Orville Hughes and Tom Hughes, two sisters, Grace Hughes Hicks and Polly Hughes.
Mr. Hughes attended Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. He was retired from North American Rayon Corp. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Beulah Dean Holtsclaw Hughes, of the home, two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Virgie Roberts Hughes, Roan Mountain, Gary and Peggy Miller Hughes, Elizabethton, one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Wayne Heaton, Roan Mountain, one grandson, Wendell Heaton, Gray, one granddaughter, Natasha Hughes, Elizabethton, one brother, Farrell Hughes, Roan Mountain, one twin sister, Cleo Hughes Roberts, Roan Mountain.
HUGHES -- Funeral services for Jake Hughes, 82, 427 Cove Creek Rd., Roan Mountain, Tenn., who died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at the Johnson City Medical Center, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2002, at the Burbank Free Will Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, with the Revs. Richard Blevins and Dan Blevins officiating. The music will be under the direction of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the Hughes Family Cemetery, Cove Creek Rd.
