- Mina Sue ‘Lou’ McElyea, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born on May 7, 1950 to the late Bert and Vena Taylor Dickens. In addition to her parents, Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, V. Lewis McElyea, who passed on February 14, 2018; best friend and yard- saling buddy, her twin sister, Mary Ann Guy and her husband Burl; brother, Shot Dickens and wife Mary Ann.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law, Craig McElyea and wife Chrissy; her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Alyssa Marie McElyea and Hunter McElyea; special niece who was like a daughter, Melissa ‘Sis’ Guy-Taylor and husband Bobby; special sister, June Stanley; niece, Jane Fink, who was also Lou’s cleaning buddy; brother and sister-in-law, Ira and Louise Dickens; many more special nieces and nephews; her special clients that she cleaned for; her special four-legged friend, Lola and so many more.
There are so many words that could be used to describe Lou; hard worker, kind, generous, thoughtful, caring, honest, funny and friend to everyone are but a few. Lou had an infectious laugh and smile that could light up a room. She didn’t care about fancy things, the latest gadgets or trend. What she did care about was her family and friends and making sure to spend as much time with them as she could, especially her grandchildren, Alyssa and Hunter. You could always find her at her grandchildren’s ballgames, cheering them on as they played football, basketball, t-ball then baseball. Did we mention that she had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh? And her eyes….she had those ‘Dickens’ blue eyes that always seemed to twinkle and sparkle. Lou also enjoyed a good yard-sale and bargain.
She was a member of Ackerson Creek Christian Church and attended Sawmill Church of Christ. Graveside service and interment were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the Dickens Family Cemetery (Redbrush Road) with Pastor Shannon Courtner and Pastor Gary Bowman officiating.
