- William was the son of Flanders M. & Margaret Ellen Shipley Salyer. He married Nellie, the daughter of Charles & Amanda Linville Snodgrass, on September 9, 1912 in Washington County, Tennessee. They were the parents of Robert Morris Salyer and Mary Nell Salyer. The couple's marriage ended in divorce.
Mr. Salyer earned his living as a railroad company brakeman. He passed away, at Knoxville General Hospital, from the effects of a chronic illness, complicated by an accidental injury, resulting in a fractured rib, four days earlier. His remains were sent to Johnson City for funeral services and interment.
