- JOHNSON CITY - Jerri Ann Britt Surber, 81, of Johnson City, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 20, 2020.
Jerri was born in Carter County on March 22, 1938, to the late Myrtle Beryl Hayes Britt and James Van Britt. She was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, Pinellas County School of Nursing in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Tarrant County Junior College in Fort Worth, Texas. Jerri was a nurse for twenty years and then became owner of Surber Insurance Agency for twenty-five years where she represented AFLAC Insurance Company among many other insurance companies. She served on the Board of Directors of Wise County Hospital and Wise County Christian School both located in Wise, VA. Jerri was also a reporter for Ring Magazine.
In addition to her parents, Jerri is preceded in death by a sister, Jimmie Lee Britt and a brother, Joseph E. Britt. Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons Jack Surber and his wife Sandy of Jonesborough, TN and Jim Surber and his wife Terin of Ft. Worth, Texas; three sisters, Jenny Ward and Rose Armstrong both of Elizabethton and Becky Harber-Haynes of Johnson City; six granddaughters, Candi Meade, Molly Dienna, Amy Foster, Ashley Morrell, Mandy Turner, and Courtney Fry; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks and appreciation are to her granddaughters, Molly Dienna and Ashley Morrell for their committed love and care to their grandmother during her illness. The family is grateful to Amedisys Hospice RN Laura Evans for her incredible care and dedication to Jerri and her family.
The funeral service for Jerri Ann Britt Surber will be held in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors Curtis Hurt, David Foster, and T.J. Hoss officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:45 p.m. Burial will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens with Jack Surber, Jim Surber, Mike Chambers, Quincy Britt, Olen Haynes, Sr., Brandon Morrell, Daniel Morrell, and Paul Farnor serving as pallbearers. Chris Dienna, Dr. Marc Counts, Craig Turner, Ricky Hyder, and Walter Lane (Bubba) Harber, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
