- Billy Gene Pierce, 80, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Wise County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Charles and Barbara Baker Pierce. He was a 1949 Graduate of Appalachia High School, Appalachia, Virginia, and a 1958 graduate of East Tennessee State College with a degree in Chemistry and Math.
He moved with his family to Carter County in 1950. He had lived in Dublin, Virginia, for 31 years where he was employed by the Hercules Inc. of Radford, Virginia, in Management and Supervision. He served on the town Council of Dublin for 12 years where he had served as Vice Mayor.
Mr. Pierce was a Former Member and Deacon of the Dublin Baptist Church. He was a member of the Henry Clay Masonic Lodge #280 of Dublin. He was presently a member of the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Pierce served in the United States Navy during The Korean Conflict. He was a former Ham Operator in Virginia. He loved to play Golf, Fish and play his Guitar and sing.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Grace Ensor Pierce; A Daughter, Donna Pierce Scofield and her husband, Rev. Dr. Donald G. Scofield Jr., Rutherfordton, North Carolina; A Son: Steven G. Pierce and wife, Genia, of Elizabethton; Five Granddaughters: Karen Ludlow and her husband, Travis, and Emily Pierce, all of Elizabethton, and Hope Scofield, Jessie Scofield and Kate Scofield, all Rutherfordton, NC; Two Grandsons: William and Zachary Scofield, both of Rutherfordton, NC; Three Sisters: June Shelton, Kingsport, Vivian Smith and Sharon Shell, both of Elizabethton; Two Brothers: James T. Pierce and Wayne Pierce, both of Elizabethton; Several Nieces & Nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. William Duncan and Rev. Dr. Donald G. Scofield officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Blevins Cemetery. Music will be provided by Mr. Dale Williams.
Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, will be: Chuck Pierce, Richard Pierce, Keith Smith, Michael Smith, Brandon Shell, Travis Ludlow, Jeff Ensor and Jessie Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Men's Sunday School Class and members of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, Glen Davis, Edwin Bare, Dick Shupe, Howard Weaver and Don Gullion.
