- JOHNSON CITY - Margaret Ann Wright, 91, Johnson City stepped inside the Heavenly Gates, Saturday, January 11, 2020 at her residence.
She was a native of Carter County and was a daughter of the late Chester and Elizabeth Bessie Nidiffer Walker. Mrs. Wright was a charter member of the Full Gospel Holiness Church. She was a foster parent, having fostered over 250 children along with her late husband. Mrs. Wright enjoyed gardening, cooking and loved her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Wright in 2017; a sister, Lola Walker; brothers, Carlos, Floyd, Johnny, Lawrence, Lester and Clarence “Bill” Walker; two son-in-laws, Johnny Cross and Jerald Kilby; a grandson, John E. Cross and a granddaughter, Lisa Diane Adams.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Cross and Dean Kilby both of Johnson City; a brother, Jack Walker and wife, Charlotte; a sister, Zelma Lyons; four sisters-in-law, Louise Barnett, Betty Wilson, Ruby Walker and Trula Walker; grandchildren, Patricia Williams, Gregory Cross and Richard Kilby; 10 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; over 250 foster children; many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1:30 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2020 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Robert Keller officiating, The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour. Graveside services will follow in the Roselawn Memory Park. Pallbearers will be Ian, Michael and Gregory Cross, Josh Adams, Richard Kilby and Lonnie Stockton. The family would like to give special thanks to Lisa Plaster, Brenda Crawford, Carol Knight, Ava Good, Candace Cross, Helen Stockton, Zelma Lyons, niece, Betty Jean Winters and husband, Danny and to Ballad Hospice for all of the love and compassion that was extended to our family. Also to all of the people that has been praying for our family, God bless you all.
