- Beatrice "Granny B" Whaley, age 86, 3627 Hwy. 321, Butler, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 29, 2007 from Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Elizabeth Rainbolt Ward. Mrs. Whaley was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church for seventy years where she was active in Women on Mission. She retired from the Carter County School System where she worked as an aide on the bus for handicapped students. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Whaley, November 13, 1988 and one son, James D. "John" Whaley in 1995. Survivors are one daughter and son-in-law: Roma and Phillip Waycaster, Kingsport, one son and daughter-in-law: Roy and Maxine Whaley, Butler, one daughter-in-law: Robin Swinson, Butler, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three sisters: Ruby Elliott, Margie Pearson, Judy Mick, all of Elizabethton, two brothers: Fredrick Carroll Ward, Elizabethton and Ed Ward, Gulf Port, MS and special friends: Bart and Susie Smith, Butler, Judy Vines, Elizabethton and Timothy Clawson, Butler. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Whaley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 2 in Little Milligan Baptist Church with Rev. Nick Bradshaw and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Ronnie Campbell and the Little Milligan Baptist Church Choir. Interment will follow in the Butler Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bart Smith, J. R. Campbell, Chris Ward, Eric Garland, Jeff Smith and Kris Klepper. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and family and members of Little Milligan Baptist Church.
