- Charles Bufford McAmis, 80, 255 Little Stoney Creek Rd., Elizabethton, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his residence following an illness of one year.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Frances and Nora Alice Williams McAmis. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Rhea, and a brother, John Howard McAmis.
He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corp. Mr. McAmis was a member of the Watauga Valley Free will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Tester McAmis, three daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Bob Bishop, Johnson City, Nadine and Craig Davis, Elizabethton, and Deborah and Ron Steele, Birmingham, Ala., three sons and daughters-in-law, Sammy and Doris McAmis, Watauga, Blain and Gloria McAmis, and Ronnie and Chrystal McAmis, all of Elizabethton, a sister, Mary Nell Bennett, Elizabethton, two brothers, Jack McAmis, Elizabethton, and Jerry McAmis, Kingsport, 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
MCAMIS -- Funeral services for Charles Bufford McAmis, 80, 255 Little Stoney Creek Rd., Elizabethton, who died Friday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Stephen Harris officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. The Rev. Stephen Harris will provide the music. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Williams, Eddie Williams, Clinton Williams, Wayne Williams, and the Adult Men's Sunday School Class, Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church.
