- Virginia Tester McAmis,84,of Elizabethton, went hometo be with the Lord, Sunday,
September 7, 2008, at HillviewHealth Center.
A native of Carter County,she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Martha Ann
Bryant Tester. Mrs. McAmis was a retiredemployee of North AmericanRayon Corporation.
She was amember of the Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents,she was preceded in deathby her husband, Charles B.
McAmis, November 9, 2001,three brothers, Raymond, Robert and R.M. Tester, and two
sisters, Elizabeth Hodge and Faye Owens.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Bob Bishop, Johnson City,
Nadine and Craig Davis, Elizabethton,and Deborah and Ron Steele, Birmingham, Ala.;
three sons and daughters-in-law, Sammy and Doris McAmis,Watauga, Blaine and Gloria
McAmis and Ronnie and Chrystal McAmis, all of Elizabethton; 13 grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren;four sisters and one brotherin-law, Beatrice Huckbea,
Rogersville, Ala., Frances andCraig Perry, Aberdine, N.C.,Ima Jean Morris, Elizabethton,
and Helen Bullock, Piney Flats; a brother, Joe Tester, Rockford, Ill.; and three sisters-in-law, Annie Tester and Helen Tester, both of Elizabethton, and Alta Tester, Kingsport.
Funeral services for Mrs. McAmis will be conducted at8 p.m. Tuesday, September 9,at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jonas Revis officiating. Music will be provided by Ted Puckett and Joy Dean Babb. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday,
September 10, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Cannon officiating.
Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m.
Wednesday, will be Matthew Bishop, Nathan Bishop, Marc McAmis, Anthony Davis,
Danny Bales, Billy Bales, Ryan Steele, Jerry McDavid and EricCannon. Honorary pallbearers
will be her church familyand the staff of Hillview Health Center. The family will receive
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Nadine and Craig Davis, 146 Lina Harvey Road, Elizabethton.
Tothose who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. McAmis to the Free Will Baptist Family Ministries, 90 Stanley Lane, Greeneville, TN 37743. Family and friends will assemble
at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
