- Mr. John Marshall Rice, age 89 of Rome, GA, died Thursday, February 7, 2013 in a local hospital.
Mr. Rice was born in Fulton County, KY on February 13, 1923, the son of the late Wilson Bacon Rice and Kate Anna Brown Rice. Mr. Rice proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Atlantic Theatre of Operation as a medic. Prior to his retirement Mr. Rice was employed at Celanese, Electrolux and as a parking security guard at Floyd Medical Center. He is a member of Dykes Creek Baptist Church and the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. Mr. Rice was an avid vegetable gardener and loved to share with his neighbors. In addition to his parents Mr. Rice was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Bucy and Elaine Prather.
Survivors include his wife Frances Taylor Rice; sons and daughters-in-law, John Marshall Rice, Jr. and Amy and Mark A. Rice and Robin; grandchildren, John Marshall Rice, III, Jessica Anne Burnham and Hannah Rice; great-grandchildren, Ayla Girardia and Aiden Michael Rice and a sister, Kathryn Curry of Union City, TN.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Dykes Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mikel Garrett officiating. Interment to follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the Honor Guard of Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion in charge of the military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends on Saturday at Dykes Creek Baptist Church from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet Saturday at the church by 11:30 A.M: John M. Rice, III, Danny Burnham, Jackie Early, Bobby Hale, Dallas Kerce and David Scott. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Shepherd. Rudy McDurmont, Ray Roberson, Billy Matthews and members of the Men's Adult Sunday School Class of Dykes Creek Baptist Church.
