- Irene H. Conley at the age of 89 went home to be with The LORD Tuesday October 1, 2019 after a lengthy battle with cancer from Johnson City Medical Center with family by her side.
Mrs. Conley was born April 24, 1930, and was the daughter of Rebecca and Jess Hopson, and a native of Unicoi County. She was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN and retired from East Tennessee State University.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John Conley, four brothers Vestal, Charlie, Buster and Ronnie Hopson, three sisters Mildred Harris, Pansy Garland, and Mary Katherine Foster.
Those left to cherish her memories are two sons, Gregory Allan and wife Janet Renfro along with Jeffrey Wallace Renfro. Three grandsons, Grant Renfro of Greeneville, South Carolina; Alex Renfro and wife Dr. Laura Renfro of Abingdon, VA; Jonathan Renfro and wife Megan of Elizabethton, TN along with two great grandchildren Bracken, and Addison Renfro. One granddaughter Christy Renfro Burrough and husband Steve of Elizabethton, TN. One stepdaughter Desiree Conley Peterson, and husband Ben of Johnson City, TN. She is survived by one sister Martha Jo Long of Indianapolis, Indiana, and one brother, Ted Hopson of Unicoi County, Tennessee. Also, a very Special "Bodyguard" to hear her call Carol R. Fargason "the daughter she never had, but the friend she always wanted". A special niece Judy Hoilman of Telford, TN.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Krishnan, Jill Rawles, and the staff of Ballad Health Cancer Care as well as the wonderful nurses of the 6200 wing at Johnson City Medical Center and Hospice for the beautiful care given to Irene during her illness.
Funeral services for Irene H. Conley will be conducted in the Sunset Room of Tetrick Funeral Services of Johnson City on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Curtis Hurt officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday after 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service at 7:00 P.M.
A committal service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Foster officiating.
