- Gladys "Sug" Belle Simerly Webb, 91, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 4, 2019, from Life Care Center of Gray. Gladys was born in Elizabethton to the late Paul "Dijon" Simerly Sr. and Mamie Lewis Simerly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Randy Eugene Webb; two brothers, L.D. Simerly and Paul Simerly Jr.; and the father of her children, Eugene Mack Webb.
Gladys was a homemaker and a member of Valley Forge Christian Church. She had a degree in the Arts from ETSU and enjoyed reading (having read over 1,000 books), sewing, cooking, painting and watching television. Gladys also enjoyed traveling extensively.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Deborah Jean Webb and April T. Webb, both of Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Tammy Hughes; two great-grandchildren, Cory Miller and Blaze Bryson; a great-grandson, Timber Miller; a special niece, Ginger Kay Montgomery of Jacksonville, Fla.; two special aunts, Metta Robinson of Kingsport, Tenn., and Della Mae Johnson of Hampton, Tenn.; a special cousin, Georgia Nadine Lambert of Johnson City; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Webb of Woodbridge, Va.
A service to celebrate the life of Gladys "Sug" Belle Simerly Webb will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 12, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will follow in the Lewis Cemetery in Hampton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
