- Ivory J. Pierce, 85, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at the Pine Ridge Health and Rehab Center. She was the daughter of the late Joseph H. Pierce, Sr. and Creola Edith Pierce and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Wilson and her husband, Gilbert; six brothers and one sister-in-law, Earl Pierce and his wife, Bernice; Raymond Pierce; Joe Pierce, Jr.; Jack Pierce; Lloyd Wayne Pierce; and an infant brother. Ms. Pierce loved working in flowers and was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Cynthia Ensor and her husband, Henry Wayne, Elizabethton; Gretchen Miller and her husband, Larry, Gray; two brothers, Lawrence Pierce and his wife, Gaye, Elizabethton; Aaron Pierce and his wife, Lynda, Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Anna Ruth Pierce, Elizabethton; special friends, Cleola Taylor, Ernest Lee Wilson, Dorothy Burrow, and Herbert and Kathy Street, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Ms. Pierce will be conducted on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace with Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sue Bowers, pianist and Dale Williams, soloist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 to 7:00 PM Friday prior to the service and at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Aaron and Lynda Pierce, 202 Sunrise Drive, at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Duncan officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Verran and the other deacons who visited her, the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Hunter First Baptist Church, and the Hunter First Baptist Church Choir.
