- ROAN MOUNTAIN - Dickie Green, age 89, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
Dickie was born at his home in Roan Mountain to the late James and Ethel Potter Green. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Burton; and five brothers, James Green, Jr., Emmett Green, Dayton Green, George Green and Jake Green.
Dickie was a very quiet, humble, selfless, meek man that loved his family dearly. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain for the past nine years. Dickie was a United States Army veteran, having served for two years during the Korean Conflict. Following the service he retired from the Tennessee Highway Department (TDOT). Dickie enjoyed gardening, watching Kentucky basketball, HGTV, the Gaithers and Reverend Charles Stanley.
Those left to continue his legacy and cherish his wonderful memory include his wife of fifty four years, Carolyn Ann Brown Green, of the home; one daughter, Mary Ann Estep and husband Mike, of Roan Mountain; one son, Teddy Allen Green and wife Jennifer, of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Monica Condrey and husband Phillip, Hunter Green and Taylor Green; one great granddaughter, Emma Kate Condrey; two brothers, Goldman (Stewart) Green and wife Joann, of MI and Harold Green and wife Barbara, of Plumtree, NC; five sisters, Hazel Chambers, of Roan Mountain, Lucy Guinn, of Elizabethton, Ruth Webb, of Piney Flats, Mary Lou McKinney and husband R.C., of Plumtree, NC and Norma Jean Arnett, of Roan Mountain; a sister-in-law, Shirley Shell and husband T.J.; and a special friend, Garrett Birchfield and wife Kaytlyn.
A service to honor the life of Dickie Green will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Roan Mountain with Rev. Clarence Phillips, Rev. Hunter Green and Rev. Geren Street, officiating. Garrett Birchfield will provide music. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the church, prior to the service on Sunday.
The graveside service will follow in the Bowling Family Cemetery in Roan Mountain with Rev. Geren Street, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Garrett Birchfield, Billy Brown, Phillip Condrey, Todd Markland, Johnny Markland, Mack Greene and Ralph Greene. Honorary pallbearers will be T. J. Shell, R.C. McKinney, members of Andrew Sunday School and the past and present employees of TDOT.
