- JOHNSON CITY - John Howard Hammitt, 93, of Johnson City, passed away Wednesday October 6, 2019 at Four Oaks Health Care Center in Jonesborough. John served his Nation in the United States Army in Germany during WWII.
He was born in Johnson City but spent most of his life in Barberton OH, where he worked for B&W and retired from there after many years of dedicated service. John attended Locus St. Church of Christ and was a proud member of The American Legion.
John was preceded in death by his by parents; Mack James and Elizabeth (Harrison) Hammitt, his first wife; Pansy Jane (Humphries) Hammitt, his second wife; Barbara Louis Hammit, brothers; Samuel and Floyd Hammitt, half-brother; Herbert Harrison, and sister; Mildred Vance.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons; James Hammitt (Sandra) of Erwin, Jeff Hammitt (Brenda) of Perrysville OH, Joe Hammit of Johnson City, and Wayne Britt of Spruce Pine NC, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren..
The Hammitt family will honor John's life with a Graveside on Friday November 8, 2019 at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
