- William Floyd Pope, age 82, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at his home. Floyd was born on June 4, 1936, in Ashe, County, NC to the late Ennis and Delphia Mahala Pope. In addition to his parents Floyd was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Melvina (Eastridge) Pope, who passed on March 7, 2012; brothers, Omery, Harlan and Roy O. Pope and sisters, Marie Mahala and Beulah Allen.
Floyd was retired from United States Army with 20 years of service. He had also worked as a Dispatcher, Jailer and Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff with the Johnson County Sheriff's Department. Floyd and his wife enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center where he delivered meals on wheels. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
Floyd is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Carol Pope Mahala and Ron of Ashe County, NC, Teresa Darlene Pope King and David of Knoxville, TN and Brenda Annette Pope Philhower and Cliff of Elkton, MD; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony Floyd Pope and Peggy of Trade, TN, James Dale Pope and Elizabeth Christine of Mountain City, TN and Alexander Drew Pope and Virginia of Mountain City, TN; sisters, Geneva Hines and Louise Simmons; son-in-law; Kenneth E. Roark, Jr. of Greenville, TN; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; honorary grandchild, Madison Blevins, several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors Billy Morefield and Sam Lawson to officiate.
Graveside Service and Interment with Military Honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard will follow from the Pope Family Cemetery, Sprucey Lane, Mountain City, TN. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
