- JOHNSON CITY - Helen Kate Mitchell Saylor, age 94, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019, in the Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Charles Mitchell Sr. and Kate S. Hawk Mitchell, born to them on November 3, 1924, in Greeneville, Tennessee.
She united in marriage to Walter E. Saylor and to this union two daughters were born. Helen was a devoted wife, mother and doting grandmother, who was selfless in nature. Aside from the great love she had for her family, she was an immaculate housekeeper and took great pride in caring for her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Johnson City where she volunteered in the kitchen for the Wednesday Nighters and was a dedicated member of the Susannah Wesley Class and later, the Frank Settle Scripture Study Class. Earlier in life, she operated Saylor's Grocery in the Austin Springs community.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 54 years, Walter E. Saylor; Brothers: Charles Mitchell Jr. and Fred Mitchell; Sister: Evelyn M. Trammell and a son-in-law; Donald J. Boarman.
She is survived by her loving daughters: Dianna Boarman and Deborah Saylor; two grandchildren: Jennifer Boarman and Alexander Boarman. She is also survived by a host of many other relatives and friends left behind to cherish her memory.
Funeral Services for Helen Kate Mitchell Saylor will be conducted on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 1:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church of Johnson City, 900 Spring Street, Johnson City, Tennessee 37604, with Rev. Jodie Ihfe officiating.
Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.
