- Finley Richard Johnson, Sr., age 84, of Squirrel Creek Road in Newland, died Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Brian Center Health & Rehab in Spruce Pine.
Born on June 14, 1934 in Avery County, he was the son of the late Theodore Roosevelt Johnson and Iva Young Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife: Nora Hoilman Johnson and a Daughter: Remona Gwin Johnson.
Finley was a member of the Johnson Chapel Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Finley was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed all kinds of hunting and was particularly fond of bear hunting. He also enjoyed fly fishing and his hunting dogs.
Left to cherish his memories are his Children; ReJeanna Trice, Finley Johnson, Jr., and Kristie Johnson, all of Newland; his Sister: Ruby Louise Shoupe of Newland; as well as 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The family respectfully requested the honor of your presence at the graveside service and interment to honor the life of Finley Johnson, Sr. at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, in the Ashley Cemetery, with the Rev, Jim Shoupe officiating. Military graveside rites were conducted by Sgt. E.L. Briggs Sgt. E L Randolph, Chapter 57, D.A.V.
