- Renate Lydia Ursula Riemann Hughes, age 78, of Ingalls, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 21, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Konigsberg, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Erwin and Elsa Riemann. She was also preceded in death by her Husband: Maynard Earl Hughes, who passed away in 2018 and a Son: Tony Hughes.
Renate attended Whites Memorial Baptist Church. She loved to crochet, work in her flowers, and to clean. She was a wonderful and loving mother and mamaw.
Surviving are her Daughters: Manuela Sparks and husband, Jerry, of Spruce Pine, and Sylvia Jones and husband, Greg, of Spruce Pine; Grandchildren: Samantha Canipe and husband, Scott, of Spruce Pine, Seth Hughes and fiancée, Lori, of Burnsville, Justin Hughes and wife, Kristen, of High Point and Paula McMahon and husband, David, of Ohio; Great-grandchildren: Collin and Miriam Irick of Ohio, Macie Hughes of High Point, Carter Hughes of High Point and baby Canipe on the way; Sister: Ingrid Riemann and Brother: Ulrich Riemann, both of Berlin, Germany; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law: Lila Vance and husband, Butch, of Pyatte, Louella Singleton of Buck Hill, Stanley Hughes and wife, Amy, of Clarksville, Va., Jacque Hughes of Spruce Pine, Thelma Laws of Altamont and Fred Robinson of Marion. A host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 24, in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, in Whites Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Sparks officiating.
