SAMUEL J. RICHARDS
Samuel J. Richards, age 65, a life-long resident of Chinquepin Grove, Bluff City, passed away shortly after 9:00 Saturday evening at the St. Elizabeth hospital. An illness of about 4 weeks preceeded[sic] his death.
Mr. Richards, or "Sam" as he was affectionately called by all who knew him, was born June 26, 1876. He was the 8th child of a family of eight boys and two girls, children of Alex and Martha Richards, who had settled in that locality a few years previous.
On April 5, 1910, he was married to Miss Lillie Bell Lyons, and of this union there were born a daughter and two sons who survive him. Mrs. Richards having preceeded[sic] her husband in death by almost four years. The surviving children are Mrs. Claude Glover of Elizabethton, Henry and Frank Richard, of Chinquepin Grove.
Mr. Richards is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Dan J. Richards of Elizabethton, Keen Richard, Mrs. H. N. Stump and Mrs. David Stanfield, residing in the Chinquepin Grove area.
The funeral was held Monday at the Chinquepin Grove Baptist church with burial in the nearby cemetery. Services were in charge of Rev. George Westmoreland. Previous to the service the body lay in state at the family home adjacent to the church.
