- Jess Brewer, age 76, of Elk Park, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 24th, 2011 at Roan Highlands Nursing Center. A native of Avery County, Jess was a son of the late Grady and Dorothy Winters Brewer and the husband of 54 years to Carolyn Howell Brewer. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gypsie Lee Jones.
He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a "people person" who loved to hunt, fish, and was an avid outdoorsman who always said he felt closer to God when he was in the woods.
Surviving are his loving wife, Carolyn Howell Brewer; a daughter and special son-in-law; a son; two grandsons; a granddaughter; two sisters and their husbands; and a brother-in-law.
A memorial service was held at 6 p. m. on Monday, November 28th at Lower Shell Creek Christian Church in Roan Mountain, Tennessee.
