- Onard Clark, age 97, of Newland passed away on Saturday January 26th at Johnson City Medical Center.
A life time resident of the Pitman Gap community in Avery County, he was a son of the late Joseph Wesley and Iler Vance Clark. For the last 8 years of his life, he was a resident of the Sugar Mountain Assisted Living of Newland.
Mr. Clark was a member of the United States Army where he escorted wounded troops home during WWII. He was employed by Labor Nursery and later became a self-employed nurseryman.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by: his sisters, Olar (Pet) Loudermelt and Ronie Cope; brothers, Oscar, Otie, Omer, Obie, Romer, Roy, Russell, Ronald, and Ray Clark.
Mr. Clark is survived by; two sisters, Retha Beam and Ruby Puett both of Jonas Ridge; two brothers, Roe Clark of Jonas Ridge and Reese Clark of Newland. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
The Clark family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. ? 8:00 p.m. on Monday January 28th at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home of Newland. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday January 29th in the Harpers Creek Cemetery.
