- Ted Buchanan, age 70, of the Altamont Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 9th, 2019 at Watauga Medical Center.
A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Elbridge and Etta Dellinger Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by his Wife: Martha Bowman Buchanan, who passed away in 2013; Brothers: Marvin, Clinton and Lawrence Buchanan; Sisters-in-law: Sandra Benfield Buchanan, Lucille Burleson Buchanan and Grace Clark Buchanan; and a Brother-in-law: Mike Duncan. Ted was a US Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era. He was a member Big Meadows Baptist Church who loved to bear hunt and fish.
Surviving is his Son: Aaron Buchanan and wife, Candi, of Jonas Ridge; Sisters: Beulah Burleson of Spruce Pine, Patsy Bowman and husband, Frank, of Newland and Doris Grindstaff and husband, Gary, of Newland; Aunt: Maxine Bartlett of Spruce Pine; Sisters-in-law: Shirley Duncan of Altamont and Marie Buchanan of Spruce Pine; and Brother-in-law: Melvin Bowman and wife, Glenda, of Altamont. Numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, in Big Meadows Baptist Church. Rev. Wesley Duncan and Pastor Keith Russell officiated. The family received friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. A private burial was held in the Bowman Cemetery. Pallbearers were Randall Buchanan, Ronald Buchanan, Melvin Bowman, Lance Wright, Travis Daniels and Seth Benfield.
