- Arthur Howard Shoun died Dec. 12 at Mt. Angel Towers Health Center. He was 90.
A service was held Dec. 16 at the Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton.
Mr. Shoun was born on Aug. 25, 1914, in Elizabethton, Tenn., where he met and married Grace Shankle in 1940. They were together for 58 years until her death in 1998. They moved to John Day in 1947. Mr. Shoun worked as a ranch hand until he went to work for Blue Mountain Sawmill. He was injured in a work related accident and became disabled in 1962.
His favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
Survivors include his two daughters, Gilda Farrell of Silverton and Reainnella Moffat of Molalla; two sons, Dallas Shoun of John Day and Robert Shoun of Florence; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and three sisters.
