- Shirley Garland, age 59, of Jonas Ridge went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Sandra Barrier. She was preceded in death by two Brothers: Dennis and Michael Barrier. Shirley was a member of Forest Home Community Church, where she sang in the choir. She loved the Lord, her grandchildren, flowers and watching her squirrels.
Surviving is her husband of 43 years: Bob Garland; Sons: Tim Garland of Jonas Ridge and Robert Garland and wife, Joanne, also of Jonas Ridge; Granddaughters: Kesha, Paige, Brooke and Lacey Garland; Siblings: Daphne Taylor of Pineola, Jay Barrier and wife, Sharon, of Morganton, Tammy Smith of Morganton and Ruannia Barrier of Morganton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
